- Who We Are
Eligible PSIA-NW members are encouraged to run for any position on the Board of Directors that is up for election in their region. In order to run, one needs to meet the candidacy requirements and complete and submit an Announcement of Candidacy to the PSIA-NW office via Fax, e-mail or “snail” mail to be received on or before 4:00pm, December 31st. Candidacy requirements require that a person be a Certified Level II or III or a Certified Level I, with two years of membership. This person must also be working in, or have a nexus, with the region in which he/she wants to run for a directorship.
Positions are for three-year terms and require attendance at two board meetings per year plus other events and committee work, as needed. As usual, one third of our Directors come up for election in the spring each year. The statements for reelection submitted with the Announcement of Candidacy will be noted in the Newsletter and published in their entirety on the website.
Positions to be elected this winter by regional members are:
|Stevens Pass||2||John Weston|
|Mt. Hood||1||Tyler Barnes|
|Blue Mountain||1||Kay Stoneberg|
Regional Directorships are also up for election each year on a rotating basis. A person wishing to run for one of these positions must be a Certified Level II or Level III and a Snowsports School Director in the Region in which he/she wants to run. There are currently 4 regions in PSIA-NW. One Regional Directorship is up for election this year, this is the Director for Region 1 (Crystal, Snoqualmie, Stevens areas). The current Director for this position is Mary Germeau. A position as a Regional Director is a three year term. Those considering running for the position must be current directors of a snowsport school in good standing. There are only four (4) of these positions which are elected on a rotating basis. The Snowsport School Directors in the Region elect the Representative for their Region by electronic or mail-in ballot.
It was a very competitive tryout at Mt. Hood Meadows on May 3-5, 2013. Congratulations to all those who tried out; you all demonstrated a very high level of expertise in many aspects of snowsports education. Your snowsports schools and your students will benefit from your efforts. Well done.
Returning team members selected at this tryout are Tyler Barnes, Jeremy Riss, Linda Cowan, and Scott Weimer. Re-joining the team, after a 2 year absence, is Dave Lucas, and a new addition is Michael Phillips. These top snow pros were selected during a 3-day tryout process which included both indoor presentations, on-snow skiing evaluations and peer-teaching sessions.
The above mentioned team members will be joining current team members, whose terms end in 2015, Garth McPhie, Terry McLeod McLeod, Brad Jacobson, John May and Kim Petram along with the coaching staff of Nick McDonald, Lane McLaughlin and Rick Lyons.
Congratulations to the 2014-2018 PSIA-NW Technical Team members.

At our last meeting, the Board approved submission of Restated Articles of Incorporation to the membership for approval. It was anticipated that a vote on the restated articles would occur at the three (3) fall seminars. The proposed restated articles and notice of the meetings were published in the newsletter and posted on the website. At the Regional Directors meeting held in Seattle, several concerns were raised about the proposed changes. Rather than proceed with a vote at meetings at the end of a long day that might require extensive discussion in order to fully air the expressed concerns, it was decided to withdraw the proposal and address the concerns in the hope of avoiding significant controversy.
The current proposal reflects changes made to accommodate the issues raised at the director’s meeting and by others. The changes include:
None of these changes impact the original intent of making the Restated Articles of Incorporation more generic.
