Course Description:
The Alpine Level 1 On-Snow Assessment measures your skiing, teaching, and people skills against the PSIA Alpine Level I National Standard. Level I affirms that an instructor is qualified to teach beginner and novice guests.
WHAT TO EXPECT
In order to register for the on-snow portion of the exam, you need to have completed the Alpine Level I online professional knowledge exam and the online Alpine Level 1 eLearning course – both can be found at LMS.thesnowpros.org (login with your user name and password).
If you do not work for a school, you will need to have completed the Level 1 prep clinic before registering, or be registered for the prep clinic. To pass the Level 1, all components have to be passed; there are no partial passes.
Make sure you are familiar with the Alpine Standards (what you are assessed to), and the Alpine Certification Guide (the exam process).
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this assessment, successful candidates will be able to:
– Demonstrate the technical skills fundamentals – Ski with the accuracy and consistency the Level I standard requires in the beginner/novice zone.
– Apply the teaching skills fundamentals – Plan and present a basic progression in the beginner/novice zone and adjust it to student needs.
– Apply the people skills fundamentals – Build rapport, communicate clearly, and manage a group safely and inclusively.
– Show professionalism and self-management – Meet the expectations for conduct, preparation, and self-awareness described in the standards.
