Getting ready to attend a Level 1 Assessment? This course will help you prepare for the first step in your career as an instructor. It is required for all Level 1 candidates who are not yet affiliated with a resort, and it supports those with limited access to formal training.

Through the lens of the Learning Connection Model, you will build an understanding of the Fundamentals – technical, teaching, and people skills – in the beginner/novice zone. On-hill practice, peer-to-peer activities, teaching scenarios, and group discussion will make you familiar with the format, assessment criteria, and activities of the Level 1 Assessment.

WHAT TO EXPECT

– Duration – 2 days, earning 12 CEUs.

– Prerequisites – Current PSIA-AASI membership.

– Recommended prep – Review the Alpine Assessment Guide before attending.

– On-snow readiness – Arrive prepared to be on snow both days and able to ski safely on all green and blue terrain.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

– Describe the assessment – Explain the format, activities, and assessment criteria of the Level 1 Assessment, and what assessors are looking for.

– Apply the Fundamentals in the beginner/novice zone – Demonstrate the technical, teaching, and people skills fundamentals at the level the standard expects.

– Deliver a beginner lesson segment – Present a basic progression to a peer group with clear organization and communication.

– Identify your own gaps – Name the specific areas to develop between now and your assessment, and the tasks that will address them.

Alpine specific. Required for Level 1 candidates not affiliated with a resort. Earns continuing education credit (CEUs)

Resort will support with lift tickets for those who do not have a pass.
