Course Description:
Join us for a clinic designed to sharpen both your tree skiing and your teaching. We’ll explore the techniques needed to navigate tight spaces, manage varying snow conditions, and stay safe among the trees. Alongside the practical skills, the clinic emphasizes teaching methods suited to different learning styles, so you can communicate and demonstrate these skills to your own students. You’ll leave a more skilled tree skier and a more confident educator.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this clinic, participants will be able to:
– Ski tight terrain with control – Demonstrate short-radius turns, quick edge changes, and balance recovery in tight spaces and variable snow.
– Read the line ahead – Choose a route through trees by looking through the gaps rather than at the obstacles, and adjust speed to the visibility available.
– Apply safety protocols – Identify tree-well, deadfall, and tree-bomb hazards, and use group management and buddy practices appropriate to wooded terrain.
– Teach it to students – Sequence progressive drills that prepare a student for trees, and give feedback appropriate to different learning styles.
Alpine focused. Recommended for confident intermediate and advanced skiers. Earns continuing education credit (CEUs).
