Course Description:

The Adaptive Cognitive Level 2 On-Snow Assessment measures your ability to teach students with cognitive disabilities against the PSIA-AASI Adaptive Level 2 National Standard. Candidates show how they assess a student, choose an appropriate teaching approach, and adapt on snow as the lesson unfolds.

WHAT TO EXPECT

– Student assessment – Gather and use information about a student’s cognitive profile, communication style, motivation and support team to set realistic lesson goals.

– Adapted teaching – Apply progressions that use simplified language, consistent routines, visual and physical cues, and appropriate task breakdown.

– On-snow competency – Demonstrate personal skiing or riding sufficient to model tasks and manage a student safely on intermediate terrain.

Adaptive Level 1 certification is a prerequisite. Review the PSIA-NW Adaptive Certification Guide and complete your Cog-VI Development Log before attending.

Make sure you are familiar with, and know, the appropriate section(s) of the Adaptive Certification Guide and the National Adaptive Standards. And that you have talked with your trainer on expectations and your readiness for the exam.
