Course Description:

Steep terrain punishes a lazy lead change. During this clinic you will learn tactics and methods for dropping into the steeps on tele gear – committing to the new lead ski, managing fore/aft balance through a compressed turn, and controlling speed when the slope will not let you finish the turn. Build confidence first, then build performance. Have fun and improve – win-win.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this clinic, participants will be able to:

• Execute safe entry techniques – Demonstrate proper methods for initiating descent on steep terrain, including edge control, body positioning, and momentum management during the critical first few turns.
• Apply steep terrain tactics – Utilize specific strategies for maintaining control on steep slopes, including appropriate turn shape, speed management, and line selection to navigate challenging terrain confidently.
• Manage psychological barriers – Implement confidence-building techniques and mental preparation strategies that reduce anxiety and enable progressive skill development on increasingly steep terrain.
