Course Description:
This clinic dives into the Instructor Decisions aspect of teaching – the amorphous zones between each leg of the people, teaching, and technical skills models, where real-time critical thinking comes alive.
How do I modify my communication style for a group with vastly different ages and CAP profiles? Where is the best terrain, lift choice, and pathway around the resort to achieve my learning outcomes in the available timeframe? And how do I communicate all of this to my students and peers?
These are decisions skilled instructors make all the time – but how do we develop those decision making skills? Let’s go find out.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this clinic, participants will be able to:
Adapt communication to the group – Adjust your language, pacing, and delivery for a group holding a wide spread of ages and CAP profiles, rather than teaching to the middle.
Plan terrain, lifts, and pathway – Choose terrain, lift options, and a route around the resort that achieves your intended outcomes within the time you actually have.
Decide in the moment – Recognize when a plan is no longer working and change it mid-lesson, naming what you saw that prompted the change.
Build the skill deliberately – Describe how you will keep developing your own decision making after the clinic, through reflection, peer observation, or feedback.
Open to all disciplines and certification levels. Earns continuing education credit (CEUs).
