Skate on Flat Terrain

(flat or near flat terrain) Push off an angled, edged ski leaving a clean track in the snow and glide for at least half a ski length on the other ski. Repeat. Unweighted ski must come completely off the snow, remaining parallel with the terrain and brought alongside the other ski before the next skating step.

Key Performance Focus

  • Extension movements are in intended direction of travel
  • Skis glide in a straight line with minimal ski-design turning
  • Direction change happens as a result of a skating step not pivoting the ski on the snow
  • Upper body is quiet, stable and moves with the skis
