A Family Affair

by Willa O'Connor

Spring 2001

Scene: The Fall Seminar for the Seattle area at Shoreline.

The Players: Office Manager Barbara Darrow with her camera, and Spout Springs ski instructor Winnifred Ringhoffer of Walla Walla

Barbara: “What are you doing here? Why didn’t you go to the Seminar in Spokane?”

Winnifred: “This is my family reunion. I’m here with my two daughters and one granddaughter.”

Barbara: “Wow! Three generations! I’ve got to get a picture of this.”

Winnifred collects her family: daughters Mary Haltiner and Myra Hoane and granddaughter Megan Hoane, all of whom teach for Ski Masters at Stevens. Megan is a junior at Shorewood high school, Shoreline. This is the second year that the Seminar has been a family reunion but the first to get proper notice.

Winnifred has retired from a career as a voice instructor at Whitman College. Her daughters grew up skiing and teaching at Spout Springs. When they moved to the Seattle area, they picked Ski Masters to work for. “We liked their strong training program,” said Myra.
